Global Cuisine
Cooking is Fun!
Global Cuisine is a compilation of recipes from our own home cooking and also influenced by foods we have had during our travels. Our cuisine is global-oriented which offers variety, and most of all, they are nutritious and simple to prepare. From our travels, we’ve brought back spices, oils, pots, a couple of tagines, and countless other things, and to be honest, you can find them all right here in the good old USA, especially when we lived in New York City. But, as you know, when you’re in bazaars and souks like in Turkey, India, Egypt, and Morocco, for example, you just can’t help yourself. We’ve found, though, throughout the years, that simple cooking is what we love best. Fresh ingredients do not require much seasoning. For example, a fresh bunch of swiss chard or kale, requires only olive oil, garlic and sea salt.
Cook Your Own Food: Some of us have busy lives, but you should make time to cook a few meals at home whenever you can. Wouldn’t you want to know what’s going into your food? The salt, sugar, MSG, preservatives and other ingredients with names we cannot pronounce, substitutes that we aren’t even aware of, are all ingredients found in food we buy outside of our homes. Whether it’s food from a restaurant, pre-packaged frozen meals in supermarket freezers or even “freshly” food prepared in the food section of gourmet markets, the food is filled with chemicals that lead to so many aches, obesity and illnesses. Try to find time over the weekend to prepare and prep some items that will last for a couple of days. It’s easy to reheat during the week and you know exactly what you’re eating.
Grow Your Own Food: We encourage you to do a lot of DIY projects – like sprouting and making your own nut milks. If you happen to have a backyard, you can grow your own vegetables. If you live in an apartment, you can still grow some vegetables and herbs right on your countertop, window sill or balcony. Don’t be afraid to try something new.
The Power to Choose: We have a variety of food from which to choose – healthy and unhealthy – but we have the power to choose. There are so many people in the world who go hungry every day, so don’t forget to give gratitude before each meal. Don’t waste food. Cook and eat just enough to sustain you. Try not to think so much of your next meal, but when you do, try to make good choices.
Enjoy good food and stay healthy!
