We live in an age where E-Cards are so convenient to use and some are so beautiful, especially the animated ones. However, the DIY greeting card is special because it comes from the heart, it shows you care, and the recipient will be so happy to receive it. We received an E-Card from a friend last Christmas and were hypnotized by the beautiful graphics and animations that we replayed it several times on the computer. The snow, carolers, large Christmas tree with the blinking lights, the presents magically unwrapping by themselves had us mesmerized; we signed up for an account! However, after the novelty wore off, we turned off the computer. Unlike the E-Cards, our DIY cards we make for each other are displayed on our piano for months until we put them away in our special box for home-made cards.
It’s most likely we’ll send the E-Cards to acquaintances from out-of-state or in another country, but we will continue to make DIY Greeting Cards for family and close friends. Sometimes we make several cards and put them aside, so when we need one, it’s conveniently there. We realized the other day that our stock was getting low and since our favorite crafts store was having a sale, we dashed off with one of the gift cards our son, Eric, gave us for Christmas. There were a couple of birthdays coming up, so we made a few to have on hand. Try making these 4 simple cards – they’re so easy to make. Here are some basic supplies to have on hand:
Blank card stock with envelopes, small and large, assorted colors, plus an
assortment of peel off occasion stickers (happy birthday, congratulations, get well soon, etc.)
Glue
Scissors
Colored markers
